What is this treatment?

Wisdom teeth often cannot find enough space in the jawbone and remain fully or partly impacted. Removal may be recommended in case of pain, recurring inflammation, decay in the neighbouring tooth or a cyst.

Extraction of teeth that are too damaged to save, preparatory procedures before implants and minor soft tissue procedures are also part of this field.

Before the procedure, the position of the tooth and its proximity to nerves are assessed with a panoramic X-ray or CT scan.

Frequently asked questions

No. Impacted teeth that cause no problems and are monitored regularly can be left in place. The decision is made based on the examination and X-ray.

In the first 24 hours it is recommended not to rinse your mouth, to avoid hot drinks and smoking and to apply a cold compress to your face. Follow your dentist’s instructions.

Swelling and tenderness may occur for 2–3 days, especially after removal of an impacted tooth; this usually subsides on its own.
